It was a pretty quiet Memorial Day weekend for me – exactly what I needed after a hectic May! My apartment is grateful for it too, it’s a lot cleaner than it was before, just in time for houseguests to arrive this week. I did get out a little on Saturday to see “Pitch Perfect 2” (tons of fun, made me want to see the first one again!) and on my way to the theater I stopped to get snacks at the Union Square Greenmarket.
The market is open Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday, and is a lovely place to stop and pick up all kinds of farm goods. At Christmastime I always stop to pick up some maple sugar candy for my boss’s present (best gift ever, right?), and year-round I’m always tempted to stop by the stalls that sell apples and cider – and apple cider donuts.
On this visit I picked up a couple donuts, a giant gingersnap cookie, and a small container of cider to sneak into the movie. I shared the donuts and cookie a bit with my friends, but the cider was all mine! If you’ve been reading this blog since the fall you know that I LOVE visiting farmer’s markets and going apple picking in the fall when I can do it. Cider and donuts taste even better in the fall – maybe it’s the crisp air, or maybe they’re just a little fresher! – but they’re still a perfect spring treat on a beautiful Saturday in New York City.
What did you all do for Memorial Day? Anyone else see “Pitch Perfect 2”?
