Happy New Year! It’s hard to believe that it’s 2015 – the conversations about whether my graduation year, 2010, should be called “two thousand and ten” or “twenty ten”, don’t seem all that long ago. And January 1, 2014, seems like yesterday. I spent it with the same friends I spent January 1, 2015 with, and even doing the same thing: a trip to the ice skating rink in Prospect Park. My knee’s going to be a little bruised tomorrow from a fall I took, but it was a lovely afternoon. I think it’s officially a tradition now, and I can’t wait to do it again.
There’s a saying about how the way you spend New Year’s is the way you’ll spend the year and I’ve decided to expand that to include the days before and after the holiday this year. On Tuesday night I went to see The Real Thing, starring Ewan McGregor, Maggie Gyllenhaal, and Cynthia Nixon, which is closing this weekend. This weekend I’m also seeing Side Show, which is also closing, and The River, with Hugh Jackman. I spent New Year’s Eve with a few friends, eating and playing games and counting down to midnight (and managed to avoid Penn Station this year). I spent New Year’s Day with friends, going ice skating and eating chili.
By my theory, that means 2015 should be filled with friends, delicious food, exercise (and good health!), and, of course, plenty of theater. And cute movie stars—Ewan McGregor was even more attractive in person. Sounds like a perfect year to me!
Wishing all of you and your friends and family a happy and healthy 2015!
